![]() When I do, I sometimes forget to use my Chase cards. I can easily get hundreds of dollars back from Amex offers on things I would have purchased with or without the discount every year, but barely anything from Chase because I rarely shop at the stores they promote. It’s true they have a bunch of useless offers on wine and stores you have never heard of, but I have also gotten great offers, such as $80 back on $200+ purchase at JetBlue, $75 back on $200+ purchase at Delta, $50 back on $250+ purchase at Marriott/Hyatt/Hilton, $20 back on $80+ purchase at higher end skincare brands, 50% off CLEAR, as well as a bunch of offers (like $50 back on $250+ or $100 back on $500+) on higher end clothing stores that I occasionally shop at anyway. They also have similar discounts for stores like Staples, Office Depot, JCPenney, etc.Īmex, on the other hand, has way more variety of offers, including some very lucrative ones on travel. Chase seems to have more offers on fast food/ casual restaurants, such as 5%/10%/a few dollars off at Starbucks, BurgerKing, Chipotle, etc. I’m with you, but I understand not everyone feels the same way. Amex Offers are nearly always limited to the US and maybe North America, so it sucks to see a $100 off $300 at Marriott, but be on a different continent.ĪA offers are good if you gas up at certain stations or buy something at BestBuy, but otherwise rarely useful for me. Also great that Cardlytics are less restrictive. I'm a fan of US Bank's implementation, as it's applied to any of your cards, though that does remove the opportunity to use the same offer on two different Chase cards. Phenomenal marketing.Ĭardlytics offers generally just get me to switch cards on something I'm already buying, or maybe buy it early (e.g. I've even actively Googled companies I hadn't heard of. Same with coffee subscriptions, mediocre wine (when it's free), etc. ![]() I can attest that I've been pulled in by Offers to buy laundry soap for 4x what I'd normally pay because I can then get 75% off. They've made a whole side business of getting cardholders to scroll through 100 Offers voluntarily, in a world where many are using ad blockers by default. I was already well over 50%, and my CL on that card was increased by about $12k.įollow the advice in a couple other posts in this thread, and apply without reducing CLs on any Chase card. I was also the recipient of Chase's spontaneous CL increases on the Amazon Prime card a few months ago. A couple months ago I applied for the IHG Premier card while at 6/24 and a total Chase credit limit of about 80% of my stated income. 50% is a soft rule, but there are certainly exceptions. My understanding is that Chase will never approve you for more credit than half your annual income. There is plenty of questionable advice here, and this is one of them. I cringe when I see DPs of people proactively reducing their credit limits on this sub. I wouldn't say never, but I don't know when I would ever consider it, or recommend it to someone. Is asking for a decreased credit limit ever a good idea? No promotion of illegal, fraudulent, or nefarious activities ![]() Official User Flairs Thread - Learn how to customize your user flair
